RESIDENT MEDICAL SERVICES
ANNUAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT– All residents are to have an annual health assessment performed in their apartment by a resident nurse. This is to include, at a minimum, verification of current medical insurance coverage, a list of current medications, existence of an Advanced Directive for future health care, and verification of emergency contact number. The status of the emergency pendant battery will also be determined at that time.
HEALTH SERVICES SUITE (215-855-9701) – This facility is located on the upper lobby adjacent to the Univest Bank.
Office Hours: 9:00 to 10:30 am and 4:00 to 5:00 pm
The nursing staff of this office is available to provide routine medical procedures and consultation such as blood pressure checks, weight evaluation, counseling, health related teaching, injections, medication administration, dressing changes, eye drops, and any special treatments as ordered by a resident’s physician.
LABORATORY PROCEDURES – A phlebotomist from Abington Hospital is on-site each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning starting at 8:00 am for those requiring a blood test. The phlebotomist remains there until all those with an appointment are taken care of. Note: appointments for this service must be made at least one day in advance. This is because lab slips for these procedures must be completed by the resident nurse to ensure proper coding and health insurance billing information. An appointment time will be made at that time.
GET WELL DELIVERY SERVICES – This free service is offered to residents whose medical condition may preclude taking lunch or dinner in one of our dining rooms. Contact the resident nursing office by calling 215-855-8484, Ext. 28310, and request an apartment visit for an evaluation. Based on their findings they will determine if your medical condition qualifies for meal delivery by the culinary department.
Once approved, determine what you will order by viewing the menu on either the resident website, the in-house television (Channel 1979 – Touchtown), or by listening to the menu on the telephone (dial 215-855-4317 and press 3 to hear the reading of the daily menu. Medical Alert devices are located in each apartment and can usually be found in the bathrooms. In the event of a medical need, the button should be pressed firmly for 2-3 seconds and released. Both Medical and Security will receive the signal and personnel from both departments will arrive promptly. PLEASE NOTE: These devices in the apartments are location specific. If they are worn outside an apartment and activated, the medical response team will go to the designated apartment and not to the site of the emergency.
Also, strategically located throughout Brittany Pointe in the common areas are 3 x 4 inch RED medical alert buttons which operate in the same fashion as those in apartments. Pressing one of these activates a response from the medical and security departments. Take a few minutes and become familiar with these locations as described below.
Scattered throughout the common and private areas of Brittany Pointe are over 100 RED emergency medical alert buttons. When held down for 3 seconds a signal is sent to the Resident Nurse as well as the Security Office who will respond to the site of the alert. Below is a sampling of some of these sites.

FORMS FOR A LIVING WILL AND A HEALTH CARE POWER OF ATTORNEY
Ever increasing medical advances and a veritable explosion in diagnostic and life sustaining capabilities have led to dramatic increases in life expectancy. We at BPE are living examples and beneficiaries of these phenomena. People are living longer and life into the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 100’s has become more commonplace. But, alas, it cannot go on forever.
What do we want our end of life care to involve? Who do we want to make those decisions? Should it be us or do we want to place the burden and guilt for those decisions on our loved ones?
At the bottom of this paragraph is a hyperlink to an Advance Directive – Planning for Important Health Care Decisions. It contains a legal document – PA Advanced Health Care Directive, a Durable Health Care Power of Attorney, and Living Will forms.
If you do not have these documents on file, you owe it to yourself, your spouse, or your other next of kin to consider making them available to the appropriate health care providers when needed.

SURGERY OR HOSPITALIZATION AND RELATED REHAB – If a resident is planning elective orthopedic surgery which may require out-patient post-op rehab or a short stay in WillowBrooke Court, or any hospital admission that may require a post discharge confinement, it is important to notify the staff in the HEALTH SERVICES SUITE. Advance notice will allow the nursing staff to prepare for the eventual return to Brittany Pointe Estates.
Hospitalization is sometimes followed by discharge to your apartment. In the event that a resident is incapable of leaving their apartment for meals, delivery service to the apartment is available for up to two weeks if found to be necessary. This service must be coordinated through the resident nursing service otherwise a charge for same will be applied.
WILLOWBROOKE COURT INSURANCE COVERAGE – Traditional Medicare, Part A, pays 100% for the first 20 days of your stay in WillowBrooke Court if skilled care services are deemed to be necessary. Day 21-100 is covered by both your Medicare and Medigap insurance. A daily co-insurance charge may be required depending on your Medigap policy. This coverage ceases at which time you no longer are deemed to need skilled care services. Your monthly ACTS fee covers your non-skilled stay in WillowBrooke Court. Under Part B (doctors, lab work, tests, etc) 80% of charges are covered. If you have supplemental coverage you need to contact your carrier to see if they will cover a portion or all or either of these co-pays. If you have a non-traditional plan coverage, a Health Maintenance/Preferred Provider, or other private coverage, you need to contact your company to determine what benefits are available.
